DO SOMETHING GOOD

BUILDING FOR THE GREATER GOOD IN OUR COMMUNITIES

Serving the Vulnerable in our Communities

At Mortenson, we are building for the greater good - to make a positive social, economic and environmental impact in the communities we serve. With a core focus on Wellness, Environment, Education, and Shelter, our Community Impact Program allows our teams to identify specific needs in their communities to help where and how they can.

Throughout our company’s history, the sincere commitment of our team members to Do Something Good, to help where help is needed, and to selflessly give of our time and treasure is one of our most valuable attributes.

There is no greater gift we can give others than our time and treasure. We do so enthusiastically, with a smile on our face and delight in our eyes.

Community Impact Program

Operated under our company values of Service and Stewardship, our community impact initiatives enable team members in our offices across the country to address and adapt to the ever-changing needs of their local community.

We do this through:

  • Developing community partnerships
  • Empowering team members to give back in the ways and places they are passionate
  • Being a responsible member of the global community

Giving Back Made Easy

We make it easy for our team members to give back to the communities where we live and work.  Through an innovative online platform, we have access to over 2 million non-profits aiding vulnerable populations in various areas of need.

Every day, our team members are provided opportunities to participate in local volunteer events, donate to worthy causes, and engage in learning opportunities to improve ourselves, serve our communities and relate to one another as more educated, empathetic individuals.

Our Impact

The efforts of our team members have supported more than 1,000 non-profit community partnerships across the country and around the world through volunteer hours and giving opportunities.  Beyond our team member giving and volunteering efforts, as a company, we are committed to donating 5% of our pre-tax earnings to charitable causes.

Mortenson 9/11 Day of Service

9/11 National Day of Service

Team members in Minnesota participated in the 9/11 National Day of Service, an event that aims to honor the anniversary of 9/11 by giving back to our local communities. At the Twin Cities event, volunteers packed over 250,000 meals. Reflecting on the energy of the event, Melissa from our Human Resources team said, “There were moments of pause and reflection as we honored the lives lost during 9/11. And yet, the room filled with volunteers from a variety of organizations across the Twin Cities who were able to collectively shift their energy to positivity and fun as we began to pack food for those in need.” Next year, Mortenson hopes to extend their involvement beyond Minneapolis to other participating cities.

Wear Pink on Wednesdays for Breast Cancer Awareness

Across the country, team members wore pink on Wednesdays in October to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Coordinating with their teams, offices, and project sites, team members sported pink outfits, including pink shirts, shoes, and even safety vests! Throughout the month, team members could also sign up for their local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure walk or participate virtually in the ‘Walk Where You Are’ event at the end of the month, as they continue their commitment to finding the cure.

Mortenson and Rebuilding Together San Diego

Rebuilding Together

Our Power, Storage, and Engineering teams were awarded a grant through the Mortenson Company Foundation devoted to Rebuilding Together®. This year, our teams coordinated with the San Diego, Minneapolis, and Austin chapters whose mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. The San Diego crew helped a senior amputee make essential home repairs, the Minneapolis crew assisted a recent widower in removing a ramp, and the San Antonio team helped a 97-year-old World War II veteran make necessary exterior repairs. The teams will complete three more projects in 2024.

Engaging the Community During our Projects

It's important to us to connect with and be part of the communities where our projects take place.  As we complete a project, our intention is to walk away knowing we have grown as individuals from having the opportunity to become a member of the community.  And we hope, that as a result, the community benefits as well.

If you would like to inform us about a volunteer event in your area, please reach out. At Mortenson, it’s always a good day to ‘Do Something Good.’
