DJC Holds Phenoms and Icons Event

The Daily Journal of Commerce, or DJC Oregon, held its second annual Phenoms & Icons award program to honor longtime leaders and up-and-coming young professionals in the local building industry.  The awards highlight individuals under the age of 40 who represent the best-of-the-best in their construction and design careers by advancing their companies and industry, and by giving back to their communities. This year Mortenson’s own, Dan Sizemore, was awarded a DJC Phenoms award.

Dan is a senior superintendent for Mortenson and has been with the company for over 13 years. Over that time, he has led field operations on large projects for Mortenson, including a recent 30-acre data center master build with 350 craftworkers. Sizemore has worked on such marquee projects as the Chicago Union Station Great Hall, OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois and the Silver Cross Hospital in New Lennox, Ill. He is currently leading the construction efforts on one of Portland’s largest and most visible projects, the 450,000 square foot, $240 million Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center and the 180,000 square foot, $35 million Oregon Convention Center Garage. Dan has played a prominent role in contributing innovative solutions surrounding the project, including overseeing the prefabrication of the exterior enclosure.

Along with his accomplishments within Mortenson, Dan has played an important role in creating a culture of teamwork and opportunity both on-site and company-wide.  At his current projects, the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center and the O.C.C Garage, Dan has fostered an atmosphere that places equal importance on each role of the team.  While continually educating the craft workers on what the customer wants and what’s important to them.

Aligning with the values of Mortenson, Dan has also been very involved within the community.  On-site, Dan supports the organization of team volunteer days and community involvement on the Hyatt Regency at the Oregon Convention Center Project.  As well, Sizemore has been a proactive participant many organizations including Constructing Hope, Portland B.U.L.L., the Sunshine Pantry, and United Way.  Additionally, Dan lead the Mortenson ‘walk team’ for the annual American Heart & Stroke Association heart walk this past year.

Dan was extremely deserving of this award, as he plays an essential part in the building industry in Oregon and Southwest Washington.  He is not only successful in leading one of Portland’s largest construction projects, he is also a genuine and kind-hearted person.
