259-room Hyatt hotel brings new amenities and provides additional capacity to the growing tourism in Tempe

The Hyatt Place/Hyatt House Tempe Downtown opened its doors on August 13 just as Arizona State University students and their families make their way to Tempe for move in, prior to the new school year.

The eight-story, LEED certified, dual-branded hotel, located at the northeast corner of the intersection of E. Veterans Way and E. 6th St. in Tempe, within the Novus Innovation Corridor, provides needed capacity for the growing number of visitors to Tempe, which reached 4 million in 2018, according to a report from the Tempe Tourism Office.

Within walking distance of Sun Devil Stadium, the hotel is immediately adjacent to Desert Financial Arena. As a gateway from campus to the Novus Innovation Corridor, the hotel is perfectly suited for visitors to the University or attending Arizona State University athletics games and events.  Amenities include an open lobby, shaded patio spaces and banquet, meeting and event spaces. Guests can relax and socialize in outdoor environments that also include rooftop amenities featuring a pool, bar, gathering area and fitness center. Ground-level offerings include a guest kitchen, dining and lobby bar areas.

“We are very proud to deliver a leading hospitality option to the Tempe market, and within the Novus Innovation Corridor. It has been rewarding to partner with ASU and transform the landscape into a mixed-use, urban community,” said George Forristall, director of real estate development at Mortenson. “Additionally, this is our second project in the Valley with Hyatt, and we are excited to continue this partnership. Offering both Hyatt Place and Hyatt House services, this hotel will be essential for business travelers and ASU families alike staying in the Tempe community.”

Mortenson, the developer and design-builder of this hotel, sold the new property in August. Financial terms of the sale were undisclosed. The hotel is part of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation under the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House flags. The expert design team includes PK Architects, in partnership with ESG Architects and Design Force Corporation.

The Hyatt Place/Hyatt House Tempe Downtown opened its doors to guests ahead of schedule to meet the demand of ‘move in weekend’ on the ASU Tempe campus. At opening, COVID protocols are in place, however all aspects of the guest experience have been fully evaluated to ensure a safe environment for the guests and hotel staff.
