On Monday, April 23, MSOE’s Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall officially broke ground! Nearly 500 people attended the ceremonial groundbreaking at the future site of the new educational facility including MSOE faculty/students, several elected officials, and other business representatives.

The $34 million project was funded by a generous gift from MSOE Regent and alumnus Dr. Dwight and Dian Diercks. The new building will help position MSOE as a national leader in the education of next-generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, and cloud computing.

After the event, a tweet from Scott Walker stated, “Honored to take part in the groundbreaking of the Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall. This will put MSOE at the forefront of artificial intelligence and other technologies.”

Prior to breaking ground, a program featured remarks from MSOE President, Dr. John Walz, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, and several other MSOE representatives. The groundbreaking took place immediately following the program, with Scott Heberlein, VP and General Manger, representing Mortenson.

Mortenson members leading the project include Rob Myers, Construction Executive, Danny O’Brien, Project Manager, Alice Westphal, Superintendent, and Laura Rudolph, MEP Project Manager. Uihlein/Wilson – Ramlow/Stein is the architect on the project.

The facility is expected to open in Fall 2019.
