No Time to Spare With NAWIC

The ladies at our SRP project site spent their day giving back to the community. On July 14th Robin Sprague, Lisa York, Alicia Duffy, Joanna Estes, Beth Newman, and Yvonne Nguyen, also known as the "Wrecking Balls" participated in the 6th Annual National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) bowling tournament, something that's right up their alley. NAWIC supports women in construction and raises money for women who are pursuing an education in construction. With no time to spare, the Mortenson Wrecking Balls took to the lanes! Robin Sprague said, "The bowling alley and all lanes were filled with folks supporting the empowerment of women in construction. There is still room for improvement and forward movement, but the train is moving and events like this create energy." It's awesome to see some of our Mortenson ladies helping the future of women in construction.

The event included a bowling tournament, multiple contests, and raffle prizes. In the end, the event raised over $16,000. Joanna stated perfectly why events like this our important to our community and industry: "I think it is important to support this event and NAWIC because of their support and opportunities in professional, educational, and business development for women." The Wrecking Balls had so much fun team building, giving back to our community and raising money for education!

NAWIC promotes careers in construction, construction education and awareness through various programs and seminars. All proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit the Lodine Robinson Endowment, a grant and scholarship program for women enrolled in construction related programs at Arizona based educational institutions.
