Bronco Energy Storage Construction  / DenverCO
How do you create the one of America's most innovative "Smart Cities?"

Mortenson was the constructor of a 1 MW / 2MWh lithium-ion battery storage system at the PESCO North American Headquarters. This is the first microgrid installation for Xcel Energy and their first battery storage facility. Mortenson is playing a key role in one of America’s most innovative “Smart City” developments - Pena Station Next, a transit-oriented development located adjacent to the commuter rail stop on RTD’s new University of Colorado A Line at 61st and Pena Boulevard in Denver.

After successfully completing Panasonic’s Enterprise Solutions (PESCO) Operations and Technology Center, the first building completed at Pena Station, Mortenson continued work at this pivotal development on two key component – A 1.3MW solar energy collection project in the form of a carport, along with a grid-connected battery storage project. These projects are among the first completed at the 154-acre first phase of the entire 400-acre Pena Station Next.
