The GSA selected Mortenson to provide construction services for the modernization of 10 W. Jackson, 18 W. Jackson, and 230 South State Street (a Loop Retail Nationally Registered Historic District Building) located in downtown Chicago. This modernization project was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The ARRA funding allocated to this project was designated for "High-Performance Green Building" projects. Enhancements to the facility’s operations meet modern-day building and energy performance requirements, allowing the building to achieve LEED Gold certification. The modernization plan prepared the 63- to 100-year old buildings to be backfilled with federal tenants, meeting the operational and expansion needs of the Department of Labor, U.S. Tax Court, and other agencies. The project included the historic renovation of the enclosure and curtain wall system. The building was also updated to be ADA and life safety compliant.
