NSB New London Submarine Escape Training
Navy Training Facility Design-build / NSB New LondonCT
What does a new facility that trains the Navy need in its design-build plan?
This one-of-a-kind facility is a $14 million design-build project that houses a 40’ deep pool (escape tower) system used for submarine escape training. The new facility’s primary mission is to train the Naval submarine fleet in life-saving techniques utilizing the new MK-10 submarine escape immersion equipment, which provides realistic training methods for the escape from sunken or disabled submarines. An attached support building provides instructional space and infrastructure for related activities such as dive equipment maintenance and hyperbaric chamber facilities. The project recorded zero lost time due to injury and was recognized by the DBIA as the 2008 Best Public Building project under $15 million.
