Owned and operated by Penn State University, Pegula Ice Arena is home of the Nittany Lions Division 1 hockey team. Following years of planning and collaboration, the team broke ground in 2012. 19 months later, donors Terry and Kim Pegula’s vision became a reality as the when the first puck dropped against Army.

Pegula Ice Arena boasts two ice sheets, an enclosed concourse, interactive history console, café, and cutting-edge media and broadcasting facilities. With seating for 6,000, the facility offers fantastic sight lines and a family-friendly atmosphere guaranteed to impact the community for generations to come.

The project was a transition in the way Penn State University embraced technology. The construction team developed a building information modeling (BIM) execution plan, used today as an industry template. The team also pioneered the use of immersive environments, or Computerized Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE), to facilitate decisions, create a shared vision, and inform building operations, ultimately reducing post-construction changes. The project was delivered on time, under budget, with zero punch list items. Better yet, the first season played at Pegula Ice Arena exceeded projected revenues by 35%.
