The project consists of constructing a new water treatment plant with an initial capacity of 60MGD, including raw water metering and chemical addition four flocculator trains with variable speed, vertical turbine units four sedimentation basins ten deep bed filter two-story brick and block chemical feed building with storage tanks and feed equipment four 5 MG in-ground prestressed concrete tank clear wells; brick and block finished water pump station housing three 25 MGD and two 15 MGD finished water and one 5,000 GPM backwash pumps solids handling system including two backwash surge tanks, thickened sludge pump station, and a two-story filter press building housing two plates and frame filter presses The project also included an emergency power system, an administration building, and associated site, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work. Mortenson’s value engineering resulted in more than $350,000 in savings to the Macon Water Authority.
