Starting with Mortenson in 1999, Dustin climbed the ranks from Laborer to Laborer Foreman, General Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, and most recently into safety management in 2010. He now oversees the Mortenson Seattle office as Safety Director, responsible for establishing an optimal safety culture through the proper implementation of Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety Program. Dustin's responsibilities include assisting in the overall administration of project safety, accident, and fire protection programs to maintain safe work environments. Dustin leads the safety team to actively assist the group in planning, disruption avoidance, job hazard analysis, and developing integrated work plans (IWPs) to ensure a safe job well done. He understands how his early involvement in design can influence the safety and security of our crews and everyone around our construction site for each project.
When not working with our safety professionals, Dustin's specific job duties include conducting work area surveillance inspections and contractor safety training programs. He accompanies safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk-through tours and documents all accidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions. Some of the most recent projects Dustin has been a part of include the Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavillion, Lakehaven Water and Sewer District New Headquarters, and the Central Oregon Irrigation District to Canal to Pipe Conversion (COID).
Dustin's favorite part of his role is his involvement with every aspect of the business, from building buildings to building careers. He is a passionate builder that looks for innovative ways of continuous improvement through lean concepts, first-time quality, and Zero Injuries. Dustin receives continual motivation through visiting Mortenson project sites and offices; getting to know team members across the organization.
In his free time, Dustin can be found on a sideline cheering on his kids' sports teams, in the hills hunting, or on any one of the PNW's bodies of water fishing. He also enjoys educating the next generation of workers and works with ANEW to mentor and develop our future craft team members.
