Show up, be honest and be yourself. Don’t try to be everything to everyone and don’t try to be something you’re not.

Vulnerability Cultivates Leadership

Work hard. Listen. Be humble. Have fun. But most of all be true to yourself. The people that have influenced me in my career are the ones who are honest, vulnerable and compassionate. When we own who we are, show up for each other and connect with others in a genuine way, we are better leaders and do our part in creating a safe space for those around you to do the same.

Surround Yourself with Good People

I have always felt at home at Mortenson. The people and the unassuming culture so closely align with what I value in cultivating real life relationships. Every day I am surrounded by good people – those that inspire me, challenge me and push me out of my comfort zone. When we seize those moments, it simply makes us better and builds meaningful and lasting relationships. I will forever value those relationships personally and professionally.

Listen to Understand

The best leaders embrace the art of listening. When we actively listen rather than focus on how to respond, we open the possibilities for insights, stories and perspectives into another person’s world. If we take the time to truly listen, we build meaningful connections and pave the way for trusted and reliable partnerships. The bottom line is that we all want to feel heard and understood. You don’t have to have all the answers or feel the need to fix things. Just simply listen.

PERSONAL PASSIONS

Mentoring and supporting the next generation of builders is something that’s important to me. Creating an environment where we lead by example, provide new challenges and leverage growth opportunities will only make us better as people and as a company.
