Establishing a positive and inclusive environment
I start out each day with the goal of being the reason someone smiles that day. I take a genuine interest in understanding people and what's important to them. When we establish a positive and inclusive environment, we all thrive. It motivates everyone to not only do better but to be better.
As Maya Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
There is no box
To get to where we want to go, we must let go of where we have been. We need to challenge ourselves and encourage each other to look for new ways of doing things. This goes beyond “thinking outside the box” because at Mortenson there is no box. Our teams expand the limits of creativity and innovation to provide opportunities and explore new ideas. This results in success, not just for our customers’ business, but for our community, our partners, and our team members.
Shifting authority
An empowering leader shifts authority to the people that support them. They not only take an active role in the growth of others but listen to new perspectives. We must think broadly to create new possibilities that exceed expectations.
PERSONAL PASSIONS
A good challenge is what drives me, and there is nothing better than turning a “great mess” into “greatness.” There is a way through any issue with optimism and hope. Using the lens of a growth mindset I see a challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. This applies to my work on jobsites, with colleagues, and through the organizations I support.
