Steve Larson
Senior MEP Design Phase Manager | Seattle

Joining Mortenson in 2014, Steve brings over 40 years of dedicated MEP experience to our project team. Steve spent most of his career working for mechanical trade contractors in estimating and preconstruction roles, learning the business at a design/build firm and has kept an appreciation for the collaboration and value-added nature of design-build contracting. He is deeply familiar with complex facilities and expansive mechanical, electrical, and building systems required for efficient operation, such as generator replacements and upgrades, campus shutdowns, and hospital campus work. His commitment to pre-planning and extensive communication to maintain high-quality installations is invaluable to stakeholders throughout projects. Steve has been involved in several DBIA national award-winning projects and is a strong proponent of the value gained through design-build.

Steve enjoys the various complex and intriguing projects he's had the opportunity to be a part of, such as the SeaTac Airport Main Terminal Low Voltage Systems Upgrade and Bill & Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science and Engineering. He especially enjoys connecting with customers, contractors, and design teams to develop MEP options that best resolve each project's challenging and diverse issues. Steve enjoys working with project teams and helping them understand the complex details behind the systems, particularly HVAC, which play a key role in customer satisfaction. He also enjoys mentoring alongside fellow team members. He sincerely appreciates his mentors as a young professional and values the opportunity to pay it forward to the next generation of builders.

Steve has been an ACE Mentor since 2015 and has led the local Eastside Pod for the past three years to expose high school students to architecture, construction management, and engineering careers. He has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Construction Management from Colorado State University and a Master of Business Administration from Regis University.

In his life outside of work, Steve immerses himself in all the joys life has to offer. He explores the world with his husband, Clare, and recently visited Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Arizona, Colorado, Sweden, and Great Britain - London and Scotland. Steve and his partner enjoy taking the Amtrak routes to Chicago and different parts of California and back to Seattle and love a good weekend trip in their gloriously adopted home state of Washington. Steve also enjoys riding his bike to and from work and in his free time, along with hiking and walking regularly while listening to new audiobooks. He loves gardening, has his own rose garden, and even grows unique plants like tomatoes, chile peppers, and basil. He loves cooking and is also a member with his partner of The Museum of Flight, the Lemay Museum, Seattle and Tacoma Art Museums, the Rhododendron Species Garden, Bloedel Gardens, and both the ArtsWest Theater and Seattle Rep Theater.
